CIHLER Contributes to ALIS’s “Day After” Panels

Several members of CIHLER’s advisory board participated in the second annual ALIS Law conference, held during the Americas Lodging Investment Summit in January in Los Angeles. As conference organizers explain, ALIS Law focuses on the “day after” the deal closes and the many legal issues owners and operators face.

Panel members included CIHLER Director David Sherwyn, the John and Melissa Ceriale Professor of Hospitality Law; Paul Ades, SVP—Labor Relations and Americas Operations, Hilton Worldwide; Laura E. FitzRandolph, CHRO and Assistant General Counsel, Interstate Hotels & Resorts; Michael Gray, Co-Chair, Global Labor & Employment Practice, Jones Day; Steve Rimmer, Principal, PricewaterhouseCoopers; and David R. Sloan, General Counsel, Sunstone Hotel Investors.

The panel discussions covered such critical issues as joint employer doctrine, an area of law that is still in flux for franchisors and franchisees; the National Labor Relations Board’s use of “quickie” election rules for union organization; changes in wage and hour regulations; and key developments in laws facing hotel owners and operators.
