Welcome, New Hotelies

Students are back on campus, and the quiet(er) days of summer are behind us. This year, 268 new students joined the SHA community—57 external transfers, 15 internal transfers, 23 new students in the Baker Program in Real Estate, and 173 freshman.

Collectively, the members of the Class of 2017 share academic strength and a strong interest in hospitality. Some quick facts about this year’s freshmen:

• 15 percent are international, with students representing Australia, the Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, China, the Dominican Republic, France, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Japan, the Netherlands, Serbia, Spain, South Korea, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom
• 27 percent of domestic students identify as being non-majority students
• 50 percent are female; 50 percent are male
• 88 percent have hospitality work experience
