Extended Academic Opportunities
The School of Hotel Administration offers many exceptional opportunities outside of the required curriculum, encouraging its students to explore their many interests and passions.
The opportunity to focus on research, to study abroad, to obtain solid management experience, to earn dual degrees, and to gain exposure to all aspects of the hospitality industry gives our students access to the best education in the world – and a clear advantage when entering the hospitality industry.
Programs available to SHA students include:
Hospitality is a global industry, and SHA students are encouraged to explore new cultures and experience the world through various study abroad programs. On average, 50-60 SHA students will study abroad during their junior year. With careful planning, study abroad may be an opportunity for our new transfer students, too.
Management Intern Program (MIP)
The Management Intern Program (MIP) is a one-semester work-study program for juniors and seniors. It provides SHA students with a challenging work experience and the opportunity to apply classroom lessons to an extended real-world management environment.
Hotel Leadership Development Program (HLDP)
Students advance their leadership skills by progressing through a series of paid positions with increasing responsibility and certifications as they learn what it takes to operate the Statler Hotel on Cornell’s campus.
Culinary Institute of America Alliance
The SHA/CIA alliance provides students with the opportunity to pursue an associate’s degree at the CIA in Hyde Park, NY while they are completing their bachelor’s degree at SHA. In four years, you can graduate with two degrees and combine your education in the culinary arts and business to provide a solid foundation for your future career.
