Biography

Christina McDowell is a senior lecturer of marketing and management communication at Cornell Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University. Her academic experience includes teaching communication and marketing-related courses since 2006 and serving in academic administration roles, including as an associate dean specializing in academic program planning, internal and external communication, college-level strategic planning, assessment (AACSB and regional accreditations), project management, recruitment and retention, and outreach. She teaches courses in business writing and persuasive communication as well as serves as a faculty advisor for community-engaged learning projects.

McDowell's research interests start with communicative engagement and emphasizes actively investigating social, civic, economic, and moral problems in corporate communication, integrated marketing communication, and communication ethics. She has published peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. McDowell is the co-author of Corporate Communication and Integrated Marketing Communication: Audience beyond Stakeholders in a Technological Age (2023) and the co-editor and contributing author of Integrated Marketing Communication: Creating Spaces for Engagement (2016).

McDowell also serves as editor of the Journal of the Association for Communication Administration. She is a past editor and serves on the editorial board of the Undergraduate Journal of Service Learning & Community-Based Research. She is a past president of The Association for Communication Administration and currently serves on the Association of Business Communication Board as a director at-large.

McDowell delivers business and professional communication presentations and leads workshops in industry on topics related to corporate communication, interpersonal communication, presentation skills, business writing, and generational communication in the workplace.

McDowell holds a PhD in rhetoric, concentrating in interpersonal and organizational communication and communication ethics, a MA in corporate communication, and a BA in communication with an emphasis in advertising and public relations from Duquesne University.
