Steven Kay was born and raised in New York City, and has been a resident of Manhattan for the majority of his life.  He has acquired extensive education and experience in the hospitality and restaurant industry over the last 30 years.  His education includes a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University, as well as a program at the prestigious hotel school in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Upon completing his education, Steven began a career of owning and operating bars, QSR and full-service restaurants.  Steven’s career includes working for the Fitzpatrick Hotel Company, The Smith and Wollensky Restaurant Group and the Tao Group.  Steven has owned seven of his own establishments in New York City. Those establishments include The Gorge Bar, Philly Slim’s Cheesesteaks, Mel’s Burger Bar, Mel’s Brewing Company, and his newest addition, & Son Steakeasy and Father’s Study.  Located in New York’s Greenwich Village, & Son is a “next generation” steakhouse that provides guests with an approachable, yet classic NYC steakhouse experience.  Father’s Study is a reboot of an actual 1920’s speakeasy offering world class craft cocktails, small bites and live music.  It is this newest venture where Steven spends most of his professional time.

Mr. Kay resides on the upper east side of Manhattan with his wife Karen and two sons, Noah and Dean.
