CIHLER: Washington’s Response to COVID-19: Congressman Patrick McHenry, R-N.C.
June 10, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm EDT
Please join former Congressman Mike Ferguson, leader of BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team, and former Congressman Heath Shuler, Senior Advisor for the Federal Policy team, as we continue our bipartisan webinar series “Bringing Congress to You.”
2020 has become a year of unforeseen convulsions around the world and especially in the United States. Just as most of the nation took its first steps toward emerging from the unprecedented economic shutdown caused by COVID-19, cities from coast to coast faced massive unrest and even violence in response to the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers.
Reforms in response to the outcry over police tactics add to an already-packed legislative agenda as lawmakers continue to focus on relief legislation to promote economic recovery while protecting public health. BakerHostetler is presenting two more opportunities to hear the latest from top leaders in Congress.
Congressman Patrick McHenry was first elected to Congress in 2004, at the age of 29. In the 116th Congress he became the Republican Leader of the Financial Services Committee, where he has served since his first term. He previously served in House leadership as Chief Deputy Whip to then-Majority Whip Steve Scalise. He was also a state legislator, and a special assistant to the Secretary of Labor, a post he was appointed to by President George W. Bush.
