Coming to Cornell
The Professional Development Program has been offered on the Cornell University campus in Ithaca, New York for over 90 years! As the program headquarters, the campus attracts over 200 participants each year during the most beautiful months of the summer.
Classroom Facilities
PDP-USA courses are held in the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University. In addition to classroom space, this state-of-the-art facility houses an extensive computer center that is available to all PDP participants, wireless Internet access, and dining facilities. It is conveniently located adjacent to the Statler Hotel.
Campus Facilities
Most participants in the Professional Development Program are housed on or near the Cornell University campus. Here, participants have an opportunity to live, socialize, and exchange ideas with their counterparts from all over the world. This social aspect of the PDP learning experience results in associations that extend into lifelong friendships. Get more information about lodging in Ithaca.
Meals
There are dining facilities in Statler Hall and elsewhere on the Cornell campus. In addition, the Ithaca area offers a large variety of restaurants appealing to virtually every culinary preference. We suggest that you plan a minimum amount of US$225 per week for meals.
Parking
Having an automobile at PDP is not necessary, as ample public transportation is available. If you do plan to have a car on campus, parking passes can be purchased at check-in at the Townhouse Apartments for the nearby CC Lot on North Campus. A daily fee will be added to your stay at the Statler Hotel for guests who park in the hotel lot.
Weekends
Most PDP participants come to Cornell for three or more courses. On weekends, between courses, they explore. PDP student staff will assist participants by providing rental-car information, bus and plane schedules, trip suggestions, and pamphlets that describe popular Ithaca and Finger Lakes area attractions. Almost every weekend, participants get together for day-long winery tours, or excursions to Niagara Falls, Lake Ontario, and the Thousand Islands area. New York City, Boston, Toronto, and Washington, D.C. have also been popular weekend destinations. Cornell University offers a number of free concerts, lectures, and other cultural events at which you are also welcome. A PDP student manager can assist you with trips to the grocery store, shopping centers, and other local sites.
Medical Facilities
Cornell has a medical clinic right on campus, however it serves only matriculated students and those with valid insurance in the U.S. Here are some medical care options for international participants in Ithaca. Participants will be responsible for any costs incurred.
