Gabriele Piccoli is Professor of Information Systems in the Management of Technology and Strategy department at the Grenoble Ecole de Management. He is also on the Executive Education faculty at the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration. Prior to moving to Grenoble, Prof. Piccoli was Associate Professor of Information Systems at Cornell University (USA) and subsequently Associate Professor of Applied Economics at the University of Sassari.
He received his Ph.D. (2000) and a Master’s of Business Administration (1998) from the EJ Ourso College of Business at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA (USA). He received a Laurea in Economia e Commercio (1996) from the University of Pavia, Pavia (Italy).
Prof. Piccoli is a highly cited scholar and currently serves on the editorial board of the Cornell Hospitality Quarterly and the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Technology has also served on the editorial board of MIS Quarterly and the Decision Sciences Journal. His work has appeared in many scientific and managerial publications including MIS Quarterly, Decision Sciences Journal, Harvard Business Review, the Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, MIS Quarterly Executive, and the Communications of the ACM.
Prof. Piccoli’s recent research and consulting interests span strategic information systems and the use of information systems to enable multi-channel customer service and relationships. This work has been supported by a number of grants from public agencies and private institutions, including the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Advanced Practice Council of the Society for Information Management, the Center for Hospitality Research, Cornell University, the Teradata division of NCR, Corporation and the Marketing Science Institute. Prof. Piccoli’s work in this area was awarded by the Center for Hospitality Research at the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration and at the 2003 Society for Information Management Paper Awards Competition (3rd Place).
Prof. Piccoli has visited and held teaching posts at a number of Universities. He served as adjunct professor at the University of Pavia, as adjunct lecturer of Information Systems at the AB Freeman School of Business at Tulane University, and as instructor at the EJ Ourso College of Business at Louisiana State University. His instructional and pedagogical skills have been recognized with multiple excellence in teaching awards for undergraduate education (Cornell University 2006 and Louisiana State University 1999), graduate education (Cornell University 2004) and executive education (Tulane University 2002).
Prof. Piccoli is heavily involved in the international scientific community of information systems scholars and is the Program Co-chair of the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) 2012. He is the Co-Chair of the Italian Conference of the Association of Information Systems (ItAIS) 2009. He has been actively involved in leadership roles at international information systems conferences over the years serving as Review Chair for ICIS 2002 and Placement Services Co-Chair for ICIS 2001.
