From the Director

Dan Quan

After enduring a particularly difficult period of cold Ithaca weather, I’m happy to report that the majority of our upcoming planned events are just heating up. Despite the weather, we’ve had a particularly fruitful couple of months. I’m happy to report that the team of three students that we sent to the IHIF conference in Berlin won this year’s hotel investment case competition, as you see in this newsletter. By every account, our team represented CREF and Cornell extremely well and clearly delineated their strengths from the other programs.

We’ve also been successful in planning for many of our major events. We’re happy to report that Sawyer Realty has agreed to be a sponsor for our upcoming “CMBS – A Retrospective” panel discussion which will be held at the Pierre Hotel in NYC on April 24. We have gathered a panel of industry icons-who pioneered the Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities market. They will provide their insights as to what we have learned about this very important source of real estate capital. I’m also happy to report that we’ve finalized a date for the visit of the New York Women Executives in Real Estate (WX) to Statler. Five senior real estate executives will address our female real estate students, and our students will have an opportunity to gain valuable career advice. We’re proud of our relationship with WX in not only mentoring our students, but also in providing valuable WX scholarships.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about any of the upcoming events. I especially encourage our Board members to participate in any of these events. We appreciate the great support of all industry representatives, especially our Board Members.
