Board Meeting and Students at ALIS

Professor Dan Quan, Robert C. Baker Professor in Real Estate Arthur Adler ’78 and Karen Newman Adler ’78 Academic Director of the Center for Real Estate and Finance (CREF), hosted an informal breakfast meeting with the CREF Advisory Board on January 24 in Los Angeles during the Americas Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS). Quan welcomed and introduced new board members, updated the board on current and upcoming events for CREF, and provided information on the proposed Real Estate Theme within the SC Johnson College of Business. School of Hotel Administration Dean Kate Walsh also shared exciting updates about the college and the happenings at the School of Hotel Administration.

The center had the opportunity to send four real estate students to volunteer at and attend the ALIS conference. Enjoy a testimonial from one of the students who attended, Ruijin Yan MMH ’17:

“The topics covered in the conference are the most up-to-date issues in the industry and it was very rewarding to hear the thoughts from industry leaders. The conference also revealed the upcoming trends in the hospitality industry with possible impact. As a student, understanding the future of hospitality is significant to be a future leader. Nevertheless, the attendees of the conference cover every single corner of the industry and the opportunity to talk to some of them is very valuable.

My favorite part of conference was the chance to meet a number of alumni and build connections with them. Those connections do not necessarily lead to a job opportunity, but hearing their advice and suggestions is invaluable.

Furthermore, I would definitely recommend anyone interested in hospitality real estate join the conference at any stage of their career.

I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Rocco Angelo, Associate Dean of Alumni Affairs at Florida International University. He is an SHA graduate of 1958. He talked about so many interesting stories of alumni of his age and younger age (60′-80′). He witnessed the development of hospitality industry and I felt so grateful to learn from him.”

Thank you to all four students who represented Cornell at the conference: Allison Callen ’18, Michael Lee ’18, Ruiji Yan MMH ’17, and Jessica Zhang ’17.
