HVS’s Rushmore Helps Students Build Industry Credentials

One of the founding principles of the Center for Real Estate and Finance is to augment students’ classroom studies by providing real-world training and experience. Stephen Rushmore, Jr. ’96 provides critical support for this effort twice per year, when he conducts the two-day HVS Valuation Seminar. Rushmore regularly returns to campus to lead the seminar, which gives both undergraduate and graduate students a first-hand understanding of the HVS Hotel Valuation Tool. In the past year, some 85 students attended Rushmore’s seminars. The tool, which was developed by Stephen Rushmore Sr. ’67 and Jan deRoos, has been available at no charge through the CREF and the Center for Hospitality Research and is one of the top downloads at the School. This tool represents the industry standard for determining hotel property values. Participating students include MMH students, those who have declared the Real Estate Minor, and students in the Baker Program in Real Estate.
