Cornell Students Earn High Marks in 2013 HAMA Competition

Two student teams from Cornell were invited to present their papers at the annual Hospitality Asset Managers Association (HAMA) convention as part of the HAMA Student Competition Award, which recognizes the best entries from Cornell University and Michigan State University based on annual topics defined by HAMA. This year, the winners are two students from the HA 6220 Hospitality Asset Management class taught by CREF Academic Director Jan deRoos. These top presenters were Stefan Dixon ‘13 and Michael Tormey ’13, with “ObamaCare: A Challenge to the Lodging Industry,” and Kaitlin Stenson ’13 and Gabriella Orillac ’13, who presented, “The New Trend in Hospitality E-Commerce.” The award recipients received an all-expense-paid trip to the HAMA spring conference in Indianapolis, where they presented their winning entries. The winning teams also had the opportunity to personally meet with HAMA members in the “Member Only Forum.” HAMA is a networking organization of more than 140 professionals involved in asset management, acquisition, and disposition for hotels and other hospitality real estate and assets.
