CHS Leaders Gather for Orientation

A dozen Cornell Hotel Society chapter presidents and regional vice presidents came together on January 28 for a CHS Leadership Orientation. The one-day program was held in Washington, DC, during the second annual Cornell Alumni Leadership Conference hosted by Cornell University.

Led by CHS First Vice President Regan Taikitsadaporn’93 and CHS Secretary and Director of Alumni Affairs Christine Natsios ’85, the orientation was the latest in a series of regional training initiatives that CHS has organized to help prepare leaders to run successful chapters and advance the mission of CHS and the School of Hotel Administration. Topics of discussion ranged from recruiting volunteers and forming a board to planning an annual calendar and managing the 12-week countdown to a successful event, and participants learned from one another by sharing best practices. In addition, there were many discussions about scholarships, improvements to the SHA website, database accuracy, membership benefits, increased communications, and new technologies chapters can use to make planning easier.

CHS offered similar leadership orientations at the annual Asia Pacific and EMEA regional meetings, and a training session for West Coast chapter leaders was held in Las Vegas in October. The orientations will be ongoing and are crucial to strengthening CHS and connecting alumni to the school through meaningful programming. To get involved in CHS, visit our website.
