SHA leadership appointments announced


Three SHA professors have been appointed or reappointed to leadership positions within the school. Robert Kwortnik will be the academic director of the Center for Hospitality Research (CHR). Jan deRoos was reappointed director of the Center for Real Estate and Finance (CREF). Tim Hinkin will serve another term as the Richard J. and Monene P. Bradley Director of Graduate Studies. All appointments are effective July 1.

Kwortnik, an associate professor of services marketing, has been appointed to a three-year term as the CHR academic director. He succeeds Rohit Verma, professor of service operations management, who has led the center for the past three years. Read the press release about Kwortnik’s appointment.

After serving a three-year term as director of CREF, deRoos, the HVS Professor of Hotel Finance and Real Estate, will serve for another year. As director, deRoos has helped establish CREF as a leader in commercial real estate research and education and has steadily increased participation in Cornell’s undergraduate minor in real estate and in the CREF Industry Fellows program.

Hinkin, the Georges and Marian St. Laurent Professor in Applied Business Management, has been reappointed to a three-year term as the director of graduate studies. Serving in this position since 2009, Hinkin has refined the master’s program concentrations, introduced a self-directed concentration, strengthened admissions criteria, and more.
