Banfi Scholastic Tour Prize

Banfi Scholastic Tour Prize

Banfi Vintners's dedication to a finer wine world includes the pursuit of excellence in making pure and natural wines and respecting the environment, our colleagues, and the consumer. Each year, the foundation provides this award to graduating senior students to travel to Italy for seminars on that nation's wine and food culture. Note: the trip occurs semi-annually, 2019 being the next trip year.

The Banfi Scholastic Tour Prize includes a one-week arranged trip of several Italian wine areas, including airfare, rooms, and most meals. The student on the summer (2019) trip will visit several of the famous winemaking regions in Italy and meet with the winemakers and staff from different producers.

Eligibility

Application for this award is limited to seniors in the School of Hotel Administration whose career interests lie in food and beverage management operations, and who have demonstrated an interest in fine wines. The award is intended for a student who graduated in December 2017 or who is graduating in May 2018. This award is primarily an undergraduate award; however, MMH candidates who meet the criteria may also apply.

Criteria

To be eligible for consideration, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of the food and beverage core curriculum, and several of the following food and beverage elective courses, by the conclusion of the current academic year:
    • HADM 4301 - Restaurant Entrepreneurship
    • HADM 4300 - Introduction to Wines
    • HADM 4310 - Wine and Food Pairing Principles and Promotion
    • HADM 4360 - Beverage Management

Note: Students who do not meet this first criterion—but whose prior academic or work experience provides a commensurate level of exposure to wines and beverage management—are still eligible to apply.

  • Demonstrated record of "hands-on," line-level production experience in foodservice operations or in other beverage-related fields.

  • Good academic standing and demonstrated outstanding talent, commitment, and enthusiasm.

Deadline

Completed applications must be submitted via OrgSync by noon on Monday, April 23. No late submissions will be accepted. For questions, contact the Office of Student Services in 180 Statler Hall.
