The School of Hotel Administration online courses, first developed and launched in 2001, are authored by Cornell senior faculty members and powered by eCornell, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cornell University. The Executive Education Office of Online Learning offers a comprehensive online, professional, and executive development curriculum tailored for hospitality professionals.

The Hotel School courses provide exceptional online-learning experiences in the fields of data analytics, finance, foodservice, leadership and management development, marketing, revenue, real estate, and asset management and strategy.

Self-Paced But Instructor-Facilitated

Online courses—while self-paced and 100 percent online—are facilitated by subject-matter experts, who guide you, challenge you, and help you apply the course concepts to your real-world, on-the-job circumstances. Courses are designed to accommodate the schedules of busy professionals; so they are offered round-the-clock and completely asynchronously. This means that once you begin your course, there is no appointed time or day that you must be online. You determine the schedule that’s right for you.

Start and End Dates Drive Completion

Courses have defined start dates and end dates. A critical part of self-directed learning is to have a finish line. Most courses take an average of six to ten hours to complete. All courses, with the exception of the data analytics courses, are in session for a two-week period. Data analytics courses are available over a three-week period. Approximately 90 percent of students finish their courses, a completion rate that is higher than any other program in the industry.

Interaction and Collaboration

As a Hotel School online student, you are never alone in your course. You are part of a cohort of 20 to 30 learners from various organizations and industries around the world. Required discussions play an important part in your course, giving you and your classmates the opportunity to share and exchange your own experiences, best practices, perspectives, and examples. All this shared learning is facilitated by an instructor who brings both subject-matter expertise and real-world experience. Your interaction with peers from different organizations and backgrounds fosters collaboration, networking, and a lot of practical, shared learning.

Emphasis on Practice and Application

The ability for you to interact with expert instructors, to ask questions and receive answers, and to learn with, and from, other participants keeps the learning interesting, practical, and above all, relevant to your work. And there’s one more key component: the practice opportunities. Most courses include a project, which challenges you to apply course concepts to your own business practices. Others include interactive scenarios, simulations, and a variety of engaging practice activities. All courses include tools, techniques, and/or job aids that you can put to immediate use in your work.

Because our mission is to develop leaders for the hospitality industry, each certificate program and course is crafted with a focus on your bottom line. It’s not enough to simply produce content that expands knowledge and comprehension; the Hotel School develops content that equips you to excel at your job and enables you to produce tangible results for your organization. Upon concluding your learning experience, you will be able to analyze, identify, assess, implement, calculate, and truly influence your business in ways previously unimagined. To facilitate this active learning each online course draws upon a variety of components, including:

  • discussions
  • projects
  • practice activities
  • short videos
  • interviews with industry experts
  • online tools and downloadable resources
  • case studies and examples
  • the guidance of an instructor
