This course provides a thorough foundation in the art and science of data analytics for decision making. Data analytics is one of the fastest-growing aspects of many businesses today as firms look for ways to capitalize on available data. Many businesses today are data-rich but often fail to fully capitalize on their data richness – often owing to either an inability to recognize opportunities a data-driven approach provides and/or because of a lack of practical skills to implement common analytical approaches.
All participants who attend this 6-day class will earn a certificate of completion. To earn the Advanced Business Analytics Certification, you must also have completed ONE of the following online certificates:
Certificate in Advanced Hospitality Revenue Mgmt: Pricing and Demand Strategies (requires approx 30 hours to complete. Please register and pay separately.)

This course is designed to overcome some of today’s data analytics barriers as it is designed to provide functional literacy in business analytics as it is accessible to those with limited or no statistical background, yet also structured to provide benefit to analysts who interface directly with raw data. The course uses Microsoft Excel to introduce many of the concepts and then develops more advanced skills in today's leading-edge data analytics tools like PowerBI for reporting business intelligence and R for robust and scalable approaches to predictive analytics and machine learning.
I. Understanding, describing and visualizing data
This module provides a broad overview of types of data, how data is collected and the types of conclusions and inference possible. This module makes in-depth use of Microsoft Excel for describing and visualizing data.
II. Business Intelligence with Microsoft PowerBI
This module builds on the foundation of Module I exploring Microsoft PowerBI as a scalable tool to create interactive reports and dashboards to communicate data-driven insights and empower users to explore data and drive insight.
III. Predictive Analytics
This module focusses on how to uncover relationships in data and use these relationships to make predictions. This module focusses on linear and logistic regression and makes heavy use of Microsoft Excel. The statistical programming language R is introduced.
IV. Clustering, Classification and Machine Learning
This module extends basic predictive analytics with a focus on more robust tools capable of uncovering non-linear relationships. With a focus on machine learning approaches the module covers unsupervised learning approaches for clustering as well as supervised learning approaches for prediction and classification. This module makes heavy use of the statistical programming language R.
V. Prescriptive Analytics
Predictive analytics and machine learning help us understand data and make predictions – in this module we focus on the Monte Carlo simulation and optimization to make data-driven decisions. This course introduces prescriptive analytics via Excel and uses R to develop more scalable approaches.
