Professional Development Program 2020
Certifications
The Professional Development Program (PDP) offers certifications recognized around the world. Most certification sequences are composed of four sharply focused courses and most can be completed in a single year or in as many as four years. You may wish to pursue a certification that requires a course or courses that cover material with which you are already familiar by virtue of your experience or prior education. We would be happy to assist in course selection that best suits your experience and education.
Courses
PDP offers three-day courses that can be taken individually or in a series to complete a certification. A pre-course assignment must be completed before each class begins, and homework or group work will be assigned each of the first two evenings. Because of the intensive work and study preparation, you may attend only one course per three-day session.
Certifications

Foodservice Management Certification
Designed for established food and beverage managers, this certification examines the issues, challenges, and strategies that contribute to a successful foodservice operation. Participants will learn strategies to increase profitability through improved human resource and financial management and by creating a competitive marketing position. Certification recipients will be able to focus on how to implement desired changes that result in increased market share and revenues for foodservice operations. Requires completion of four classroom courses.

Financial Fluency Certification
Finance is a language; it is also a complementary way of thinking about the hundreds of decisions today’s hospitality manager has to make. This Certification empowers managers to use intuitive financial techniques and perspectives to make better decisions in all areas of the hospitality business. The Financial Fluency Certification is designed for managers whose main job is not in finance but who are faced with decisions that have some inherent financial component (that is, they involve money). Requires completion of four classroom courses.

Hospitality Management Certification
The courses in this Certification are designed for individuals who wish to develop a solid foundation of management concepts and skills. Participants gain essential management skills in the areas of human resource management, marketing, leadership, financial analysis, and foodservice management. In short, these courses are designed to build a foundation of skills to help new managers succeed and progress in their organization.
This Certification can be completed using one classroom course from Group A, one classroom course from Group B and two classroom courses from Group C.
OR substitute one of the following online certificates for the second course in Group C.

Certificate in Hospitality Management
Certificate in Strategic Hospitality Marketing
Online certificates must be registered and paid for separately.

Strategic Hospitality Management Certification
Intended primarily for middle and upper-level managers who wish to strengthen their understanding of and their ability to contribute to the organization’s strategic objectives. Also of interest to managers and directors who have direct responsibility for the design and implementation of corporate strategy. Participants will prepare themselves for financial, marketing and leadership functions that entail significant strategic responsibility. Requires completion of four classroom courses.

Advanced Certification in Real Estate and Hotel Investment
Designed for managers in hotel real estate, development, and investment, and for seasoned general managers who anticipate a move to those roles or who desire a fuller understanding of the principles that guide owners and investors.
Requires completion of two three-day classroom courses ($5,990) and the online certificate in Hotel Real Estate Investments and Asset Management (additional cost). This series is comprised of six online courses (listed below). Please allow two weeks per course to complete the certificate series. Online courses are available year-round, with course sessions beginning each month. It is ideal to take one course at a time. However, it is possible to complete the online series before the start of the classroom course if you enroll in more than one course simultaneously prior to February 2020.

Please Note: You must register and pay for online courses separately from classroom courses. After applying for the series of two classroom courses, you can register for the online certificate in Hotel Real Estate Investments and Asset Management.

Advanced Business Analytics Certification - NEW!
Data-driven decision making is the catchphrase that everyone is talking about, but few comprehensively understand. Through the Advanced Business Analytics Certification, individuals from a variety of departments and technical disciplines will learn techniques to move past basic numeric analysis and begin to truly understand the potential and learn technical tools to harness the power of the data available to them. This Certification culminates in a unique 6-day hands-on advanced workshop with Professor Chris Anderson, where participants will work in a computer lab gaining hands-on experience with applying various analytics tools to large data sets. Although an interest in numbers is strongly recommended, no prior analytics experience is required to earn this Certification.
Earn this Certification using a blended learning approach. Requires the completion of Leveraging Data to Improve Business Outcomes: 6-Day Advanced Workshop, (US$5,990) and prior completion of ONE of the following online certificates:
Certificate in Advanced Hospitality Revenue Management: Pricing and Demand Strategies (requires approximately 30 hours to complete and should be registered and paid for separately)
OR
Revenue Management 360 Certificate (requires approximately 111 hours to complete and should be registered and paid for separately)
OR
Certificate in Data Analytics (requires approximately 30 hours to complete and should be registered and paid for separately)
OR
Certificate in Data Analytics 360 (requires approximately 50 hours to complete and should be registered and paid for separately)
OR prior completion of the following TWO classroom courses:
Develop an Entrepreneurial Mindset for Innovation and Growth (June 8 - 10, 2020)
AND

Many hospitality leaders work their way up the ranks because they are excellent operators, and innately understand how their businesses work, the nuances of working with guests, and how to outperform their competition. However, they rarely have the opportunity to invest in developing the skills necessary to transform from a capable operator to a strategic leader. This Certification is designed to specifically help foster and develop the many soft skills that allow an individual to excel not only on the front lines, but also with their team and within their organization. Requires the completion of four classroom courses.

Advanced Hospitality Marketing and Brand Innovation Certification - NEW!
To maintain a competitive edge, marketers must always be prepared to innovate, drive change, and be unwilling to settle for the status quo. Understanding the role of brand, both for one's own property and in the context of the competitive landscape, is also critical to achieving success. Through this Certification, stakeholders who are either responsible for marketing activities or want to better align their division with the role and priorities of the marketing team will establish a toolkit for becoming innovators and learn techniques for positively affecting change.
