Where: Statler Auditorium

The National Basketball Association (NBA) Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver referred to Ms. Rachel Jacobson as the organization’s “best kept secret.” Ms. Jacobson joined the NBA upon graduating from Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration and has swiftly made a name for herself in the industry. Few NBA executives have held leadership roles in as many of the league’s businesses or have progressed as quickly as Ms. Jacobson.

Upon joining the NBA organization, she participated in the league’s first entry-level management program and now serves as the senior vice president of business development. In her current role, Ms. Jacobson is responsible for the strategic management and sponsorship sales of the NBA and WNBA, including new business development, marquee events, community relations, and grassroots programming. She has played a key role in forming strategic partnerships with many Fortune 500 companies, including Microsoft, Under Armour, Jeep, Sanofi-Aventis, Burger King, and Starwood Resorts, to name a few.

Prior to joining the Business Development Department, she worked in Marketing Partnerships, where she oversaw multimillion-dollar sponsorships and special events – including NBA All-Star and NBA Draft. Today, Ms. Jacobson is considered to be one of the rising stars in the sports industry and was named by SportsBusiness Journal among 2010’s Forty Under 40. In addition to her responsibilities at the NBA, Ms. Jacobson serves as a charter member of the W.O.M.E.N. Mentoring Program, a member of both the Cornell Dean’s Alumni Council and the President’s Council of Cornell Women. She holds a bachelor of science degree from Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration.

Full DDLS schedule: Lectures are held on Fridays throughout the fall semester at 1:25 p.m. in the Alice Statler Auditorium. Lectures are free and open to the public, and open seating is available in the balcony of the auditorium.
