Health Care REIT (NYSE:HCN) sponsored a senior living seminar at Cornell for the third year. The seminar was held in collaboration with Cornell's School of Hotel Administration (SHA) and Sloan Program in Health Administration in the College of Human Ecology.

The two-credit academic course, Operations and Planning of Senior Living and Related Facilities, launched in 2010 with the support of SHA alumnus John Rijos. The course focuses on essential operations and management issues in the senior care industry and highlights the benefits associated with incorporating hospitality into the rapidly growing senior housing industry. Brooke Hollis, executive director of the Sloan Program in Health Administration at Cornell, taught the course for undergraduate and graduate students.

"There is a natural connection between the hospitality and senior-living industries, and we are excited to be able to introduce our students to these possible career paths," said Steven A. Carvell, associate dean for academic affairs at SHA. "Health Care REIT has been instrumental in helping us develop this program over the past three years."

"The Cornell seminar gives Health Care REIT the opportunity to mentor, inspire, and support the future generation of senior-living professionals," said Chuck Herman, Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of Health Care REIT. "We are excited to continue our collaboration with the School of Hotel Administration and the Sloan Program in Health Administration."

As part of the course sponsorship, Health Care REIT also had several exclusive opportunities to meet with and recruit Cornell students.
