HVS, a hospitality consulting organization with 35 offices around the globe, has confirmed its support as an Industry Fellow of the Center for Real Estate and Finance (CREF) at the Cornell School of Hotel Administration (SHA) for three years. The advisory board seat will be filled by Rod Clough for two years and by Suzanne Mellen for a third year.
HVS has provided consulting services and solutions for thousands of clients in all 50 states and more than 60 foreign countries for hotels, mixed-use developments, shared ownership, and leisure assets. The firm also orchestrates major industry conferences and networking opportunities in various regions of the world.
"We are pleased to have HVS continue as a CREF Industry Fellow and to welcome Rod Clough and Suzanne Mellen to our advisory board," said Jan deRoos, HVS International Professor of Finance and Real Estate and executive director of CREF. “Suzanne and I were ‘hotelie’ classmates, and I am honored by her and Rod’s generosity. In addition, the School of Hotel Administration has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with HVS. The company’s founder, Steve Rushmore, provided instrumental founding support to CREF, and the current CEO and president, Stephen Rushmore, Jr., brings his Hotel Valuation Seminar to students twice each year. All four of these HVS executives are SHA alumni, making this collaboration extra special.”
At HVS Rod Clough is the Senior Managing Director of the Denver and Dallas Consulting and Valuation Services divisions; Managing Partner for Consulting and Valuation offices in Atlanta, Houston, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, and St. Louis; and a Partner in the Mexico City office. Clough’s work in the hospitality industry spans more than 20 years. In addition to thousands of individual appraisal and consulting projects, Clough has successfully coordinated some of firm’s most challenging assignments, including large-scale portfolio work for Hilton and Extended StayAmerica.
Suzanne Mellen is the Senior Managing Director of Consulting and Valuation for HVS San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. She is also President of HVS Gaming Services. Offices under her leadership are renowned for consistent quality, thorough and thoughtful analyses, and high integrity. Over the past 35 years, she has appraised thousands of hotels, gaming assets, and related real estate, including some of the world’s largest casino developments in Macau and Las Vegas. She has contributed numerous hospitality and gaming industry articles and is a frequent lecturer and expert witness on the valuation of hotels, casinos, and related issues.
"Becoming an Industry Fellow gives us the opportunity to expand our commitment to the real estate industry while supporting real estate education and research," said Clough. "We look forward to cultivating the next future leaders in real estate with the partnership of a global educational institution like the Center for Real Estate and Finance at the Cornell School of Hotel Administration."
The CREF Industry Fellows program is the cornerstone of the center's outreach efforts. It has been in development since CREF was founded in 2009 and now has 28 members who help fund the annual Cornell Real Estate Case Competition, seminars on current industry topics, student travel to real estate investment conferences, as well as faculty research.
