Schneider Electric Renews Partnership with Cornell Center for Hospitality Research

Ithaca, NY, February 18, 2013 - Schneider Electric, the international energy management firm, has renewed its partnership agreement with the Cornell Center for Hospitality Research (CHR) at the School of Hotel Administration. CHR partners are instrumental in supporting the CHR's research program and they sit on the CHR's advisory board. In addition, Schneider Electric has sponsored a student sustainability competition, which awards monetary prizes for innovative sustainability ideas.

"We are delighted to continue our partnership with the CHR," said Sean O'Kane, director, hotel strategic alliances and thought leadership for Schneider Electric. "In particular we are enthusiastic about the CHR's Sustainabilty Roundtable series, and the student sustainability competition. The students' energy and creativity are amazing."
"Schneider Electric is a great example of our many forward-looking partners, and I greatly appreciate their continued support," said Associate Professor Rob Kwortnik, CHR's academic director. "Schneider Electric's sponsorship of the sustainability competition adds tremendous value to the CHR's Sustainability Roundtable. The student teams are excited and involved in this program."

During the 2012 Sustainability Roundtable, three student finalist teams presented their vision for a sustainable concept for hotels, in the competition sponsored by Schneider Electric. First prize of $2,000 went to a student group that proposed offering incentives to hotel guests for sustainability. A concept of integrated property environmental management earned second prize of $1,000, and third prize, $500, was taken by a group that proposed growing plants on roofs.
