Entrepreneur Jim Farrell to Speak at the School of Hotel Administration

Jim Farrell's entrepreneurial career has spanned from greenhouse insulation systems to gourmet frozen beverages. Next Tuesday, September 28, 2010, he will be the featured speaker in the Conversations with Entrepreneurs series presented by the Leland C. and Mary M. Pillsbury Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship at Cornell University. Farrell will share the highs, lows, adventures, and lessons of his journey from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. in 198 Statler Hall. He will dine with selected students after the event and meet with students, staff, and faculty the following day.
"This series is designed to inspire students and inform them about the opportunities and challenges that come with being an entrepreneur," said Tom Ward, managing director of the Pillsbury Institute. "With his endless curiosity, passion for innovation, and proven business savvy, Jim is an ideal Conversations series speaker."
Farrell is currently president of f'REAL! Foods, a company he founded to pursue a new approach to making frozen blended beverages. Today, there are more than 5,000 f'REAL! patented blenders in retail locations in all 50 states as well as Canada.
Before founding f'REAL! Foods, Farrell served as general manager of the foodservice business unit at Dreyer's/Edy's Grand Ice Cream and was a senior management consultant at McKinsey & Company, where he specialized in corporate strategy with an emphasis on change management.
Farrell's first company designed and manufactured insulation systems for commercial greenhouses and received a patent for the design of the system in partnership with the Cornell University Technology Transfer Office. He founded the company immediately after earning undergraduate and graduate degrees in Agricultural Engineering from Cornell's College of Engineering.
