FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Professor J. Bruce Tracey Named New Editor of Cornell Hospitality Quarterly

Ithaca, NY, June 28, 2010 – J. Bruce Tracey, associate professor of human resources management at the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration, has been named the new editor of the Cornell Hospitality Quarterly (CQ). His three-year term as editor begins July 1, 2010. Tracey succeeds Linda Canina, also an associate professor at Cornell.

Now in its 50th year of publication, the CQ is the hospitality industry's foremost journal of applied research. The journal has just been ranked by Journal Citation Reports in the following categories: hospitality, leisure, sport, and tourism; management; and sociology. Published by the Center for Hospitality Research at the Cornell School of Hotel Administration, the CQ is managed exclusively by Sage Publishers. As editor, Tracey is responsible for directing the course of the journal and overseeing the CQ's double-blind review process.

"I am very excited about taking on this new role and working with the CQ's many excellent authors," said Tracey. "I greatly appreciate the work of my predecessor, Linda Canina, who approached the journal with an eye for innovation and enhancing the journal's position. My goal is to build on Linda's efforts and those of the previous editors to publish articles that are based on rigorous research and have direct applicability to the industry."

Tracey joined the faculty of the School of Hotel Administration in 1992 after receiving his Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Albany. In addition to Cornell, he has taught in a variety of degree programs, including TKK Executive School of Business, Helsinki, Finland; Cornell-Nanyang Institute for Hospitality Management, Singapore; Institut de Management Hotelier International, Paris; and Ecole Hotelière Lausanne, in Switzerland. In addition, he has facilitated numerous executive education courses throughout North America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Asia.

Focusing on human resources strategy and management, Tracey's research has examined a wide range of strategic and operational-level HR topics, including the impact of training initiatives on individual and firm performance, employee turnover, employment law, and leadership. A frequent contributor to the Cornell Quarterly, he has been widely published in mainline human resources and management journals, including Personnel Psychology, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Research Methods, and Journal of International Management. Awards for his work include the Industry Relevance Award from the Cornell Center for Hospitality Research and the Best Management Development Paper Award from the Academy of Management.

Sponsors for Tracey's research and consulting include Four Seasons Resorts and Hotels, Hilton Hotels Worldwide, Marriott International, Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts, ClubCorp USA, and Uno Chicago Grill. Among other assignments, he has conducted leadership assessments, training evaluations, and HR strategy and program evaluations.

Meet and interact with Professor Tracey, an active member of the executive education faculty at the School of Hotel Administration, when he presents sessions in the Professional Development Program: http://www.hotelschool.cornell.edu/industry/executive/pdp/.
