Learning Opportunity with a Big Heart: SHA Students Host Charity Auction

Nov 18, 2009

Students in the Catering and Special Events Management class at the School of Hotel Administration will host a charity auction on Saturday, November 21, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Beck Center in Statler Hall. Proceeds from the third annual event will benefit Meals on Wheels of Ithaca, the Keith O'Donnell Scholarship fund, and Hotelies with a Heart, a student fundraising organization that helps members of the hospitality industry in times of need.

The yearly auction gives students the opportunity to plan an event from beginning to end, while raising money for local charities. The evening will include both a silent and live auction, featuring such items as a cooking class for two in Paris, France; a one-week stay at the 5-star Khao Lak Resort & Spa in Thailand; hotel stays in New York City, Washington, DC, New Orleans, Denver, Portland, OR, and Ithaca, NY; a pastry workshop for six; gift certificates to local restaurants; a painting of the Cornell Crescent by Ed Marino; and much more.

This year's theme, Cirque Du Sweets, combines the excitement of Cirque du Soleil with candy-flavored fun. Senior lecturer Rupert Spies, the class's instructor, ensures that it will be a delightful and entertaining evening with fabulous food and wonderful items to bid on.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
